Rātana Junior Rugby

Silks Audit are the proud sponsors of the Rātana Junior Rugby. With 6 teams in the Whanganui competition the community is well represented and Tamariki are learning new skills and keeping active. Ka pai Tamariki, Kia mau te wehi. On the 15 June 2024, Rātana Rugby celebrated 100 years with a club day in Ratana and all the Tamariki received their 100 year Hoodies to commemorate the event.

Talia Anderson – Town appointed to the Lotteries Commission Board

Internal Affairs Minister Brooke van Velden has today announced Mark Todd as the new Chair of the NZ Lotteries Commission Board and two new board appointments. Mark has been a commissioner on the board since 2019 and is currently in his third term. He also chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. “In addition, I am pleased to announce the new appointments of two new commissioners, Angela Dixon and Talia Anderson-Town who will both join the board on 1 June.”

Ratana Wāhine Rugby – Up the Silky Wahs

Silks audit are proud sponsors of the Ratana Wāhine Rugby Team. In their first year of competing in the Whanganui competition they have excited the local community into spectating on Friday nights with the opportunity to cheer for another team that represents who they are “We are Rātana” They are locally known as the Silky Wahs – just like the warriors – they have staunch supporters who follow them to every game be it at home in Whanganui or Taihape. This is “Run it back” – a team we sponsor – which represents students across many schools who play in both the Whanganui and Manawatu touch competition. Catch them carving it up in the Whanganui competition on Wednesday afternoons. Tu meke Rangatahi.

2023 Taranaki Sports Awards – Congratulations Zoe Hobbs

Smashing records around the world and breaking new ground for New Zealand female sprinters – Zoe Hobbs season is packed with highlights. Finishing 10th at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hobbs also ran the fastest 100m on Australian soil with a 10.97 second victory.
She also clocked a new personal best and New Zealand record of 10.96 seconds in July and finished 9th in the international diamond league.
Hobbs dominated domestically, resetting the New Zealand Resident Record and the all-Comers record twice and breaking the New Zealand record three times, picking up her seventh consecutive national 100m title. She has run under the Olympic Games qualifying standard of 11.07 and if selected, she will be the first female sprinter to represent New Zealand at the Olympics since 1976.

Lou Walker of Te Ātihaunui a Pāpārangi is an aspiring charted accountant.
As a 5th former at Whanganui High School she realised how good she was at maths and studyed accounting.
Now, the 32-year-old is an auditor at Silks Audit’s Whanganui office working among other young Māori professionals.
Eventually she wants to become a charted accountant and work with Māori businesses and with whānau to build their intergenerational wealth.
