After coming through lockdowns in 2020, this year Whanganui-based Talia Anderson-Town CA and Cameron Town CA of Silks Audit made a promise to continue investing time in their clients and listening to their challenges.

Silks Audit Director and audit partner Cameron Town has been appointed to the External Reporting Advisory Panel (XRAP) for a period of three years from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2024. He also attended his first meeting today in Wellington where they discuss new and emerging accounting and audit standard’s and engage with the External Reporting board (XRB) directly on the strategic direction of these issues. Congratulations Cameron.

Olympic swimmer Zac Reid was the winner of the Silks Audit Sportsperson of the Year award at the Taranaki Sports Awards 2021. Reid, who will represent New Zealand at the Tokyo Games starting this month, won the top award – on Friday night, and was also named Senior Sportsman of the Year. In his absence due to pre – games preparations Zac’s parents accepted the award on his behalf.
Cameron Town CA, Audit Partner, Silks Audit Chartered Accountants sees workplace flexibility as an important means to improving workforce morale and boosting retention rates. “Since the pandemic, we’ve introduced more flexibility into our workplace and it’s certainly given everyone a fresh perspective
on how we work,” Town says. This flexibility, it’s worth noting, applies to specific roles and tasks of the audit process, with some staff working more remotely than others. Ultimately, it all comes down to balance.
Talia’s story is exceptional, but this husband-and-wife team have designed the business to pursue excellence and encourage more Māori to follow a career in financial services.
“We’re always trying to get Māori into audit,” she says. “It’s probably an area that doesn’t have many Māori pursuing a career but there are lots of Māori clients out there,
“It’s all about creating opportunities, and we offer a pathway for graduates to go all the way to potentially being a director or audit partner like I did.”
Silks Audit is incredibly proud to support the under 8 Rātana Junior Rugby team. Talia and Cameron – directors and audit partners of Silks Audit had the privilege of presenting the team with their new hoodies to keep them warm before and after their Saturday morning matches. Local Whanganui Māori business owners were given the opportunity to network with Māori business mentors, government agencies and local iwi organisations at the inaugural Māori Business summit in Whanganui. Regan Paranihi reports.
